Agartala: Jan 11: Former Chief Minister and Politburo member Manik Sarkar strongly criticized the BJP, IPFT, and Tipra Motha for what he described as their “criminal” actions against the people of the state. Speaking at a rally organized by the Gana Mukti Parishad during their Raj Bhavan march, he stated that the people have no choice but to fight for their freedom from the authoritarian rule of these parties.
Sarkar reminded the crowd of BJP’s promises made in 2018 when they called for a change and pledged to solve the state’s unemployment problem. However, he pointed out that seven years have passed, and the BJP government has failed to deliver on these promises. He recalled how, under the previous Left Front government, priority-based government jobs were provided twice a year in collaboration with the finance department. Sarkar emphasized that despite the BJP’s central government, unemployment continues to be a major issue in Tripura, as evidenced by the lack of job opportunities.
He also criticized the BJP’s failure to fulfill another promise made in 2018 to provide a daily wage of ₹300 for agricultural workers, as the current wage stands at ₹240. Additionally, the workers are only given work for an average of 32 days a year.
Sarkar also targeted Tipra Motha, accusing them of betraying the people by providing indirect support to BJP in the 2023 assembly elections. He alleged that Tipra Motha’s leaders deliberately fielded candidates in unreserved seats, ultimately safeguarding BJP’s position and preventing the Left Front from coming to power. Sarkar concluded by saying that the people of Tripura must fight against BJP, Tipra Motha, and IPFT to rid the state of these parties and their divisive politics. He urged the citizens to not be deceived by false promises and to prepare for a struggle to ensure a better future for the state.
