Agartala: The number of fatal road accidents in Agartala’s lone Flyover has spiked at an alarming rate in the last couple of months. The city dwellers have attributed the rise in such accidents to the lackadaisical attitude of the traffic unit of Tripura police which had practically failed to check those incidents. Late in the night, the whole flyover turns into a deserted area with no police official deployed for penalizing the traffic law violators. In a similar incident, two persons identified as Biswajit Deb and Sunit Das died at GBP hospital Agartala. Both of them had received grave injuries after their motorcycle collided with a speeding four wheeler in the flyover. Fire Brigade tenders swung into action immediately to shift them to GBP hospital Agartala where they succumbed to the injuries. Speaking on the issue, an on-duty police officer said, “We have been informed that one two persons have suffered grievous injuries as a motorcycle and a car collided head on in the flyover. We rushed to the spot but could not find anyone in connection with the incident. The injured persons had already been shifted to the GBP hospital Trauma Care Center for treatment”. Revealing the identities of the deceased persons, one Mangal Chakraborty said, “The deceased are Biswajit Deb, a resident of ONGC area and his pillion rider was Subir Das who hails from Banikya Chowmuhani”.
