Agartala: Apr 04: Tripura’s Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das during a meeting at the directorate of fisheries in Agartala on Tuesday reviewed the implementation of various schemes and projects towards making the state self-sufficient in fish production. He meet with the officials at the sub-divisional, district and state level and updated on the ground issues.
Later speaking to reporters Das said that almost 95 percent of the population of the state are fish eaters and on an average the annual per head consumption is around 26 Kg while the production is 18 to 19 Kg and there is an deficit of 7 to 8 Kg which is fulfilled by importing it from outside.
He added that to fill up the deficit gap the state government has kept a target to soon become self sufficient in fish production by taking new schemes and from outside adopting scientific technology for enhancing the production capacity.
Das, also the ARDD Minister said that keeping in view the sporadic incident of Swine Flu since last week, as precaution the Tripura government has totally banned on the import of pig from outside into the state and if anyone found doing it shall be penalised.
He said, “Without any inspection by the concern department, no pigs can be brought inside Tripura as the department has banned on it. Moreover, an Act will also be implemented on the ban so that if anyone found illegally importing pig into Tripura then the department can take strong action. Without legal and departmental checkups, no pig shall be allowed to enter the state.”
The Minister said that doctors of the department are working and monitoring the situations and time to time samples are being sent to the disease investigation lab for examining for Swine Flu so that if anything found wrong them immediately can act upon it.
