Agartala, June 14: The tragic death of Priya Deb, who died by suicide on Saturday morning, has sent shockwaves through her family and local community, sparking growing demands for a fair, transparent, and thorough investigation into the circumstances leading up to her death.
According to family members, Priya had been in a relationship with Purab Dey for the past three years. The couple entered into a registered marriage in November 2025. Purab, who works with a private company in Siliguri, had hosted Priya at his residence from May 18 to June 10. However, upon her return home, relatives noticed a significant change in her behavior. They described her as emotionally withdrawn, distressed, and unusually quiet.
On Friday night, just hours before the tragedy, Priya reportedly confided in her mother that she had discovered that Purab had cheated on her. Deeply hurt by the alleged betrayal, she requested that both families meet and discuss the issue in an attempt to find a solution. Her mother assured her that efforts would be made to arrange such a meeting. Tragically, before any discussion could take place, Priya took the extreme step of ending her life.
The grieving family has also raised concerns about Purab’s response following the incident. Relatives alleged that he did not immediately visit the family after learning about Priya’s death and agreed to attend her cremation only after repeated requests from family members.
Further questions have emerged after family members reportedly noticed marks on Priya’s body, prompting calls for investigators to examine all aspects of the case carefully.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Priya’s cousin sister said they are not seeking to prejudge anyone but want the truth to come to light. She emphasized that Priya was a strong and courageous individual, making her sudden death even more difficult to comprehend.
