Agartala, July 10: Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Md. Riaz Hamidullah on Friday described India-Bangladesh relations as “organic” and “absolutely natural”, stressing that the bond between the two neighbours is rooted in shared history, geography and enduring people-to-people connections that extend far beyond trade and economic cooperation.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the two-day Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026 in Agartala, Hamidullah said the bilateral relationship has evolved over decades and spans multiple sectors.

“Our relations are organic and absolutely natural. They have continued since the pre-Independence period and should not be measured only by trade and economic exchanges,” he said, adding that the scope for future cooperation is immense. “The sky is the limit,” the envoy remarked, expressing confidence that both countries can deepen collaboration across diverse fields.

Referring to the changing political landscape in Bangladesh, Hamidullah said all bilateral issues are either under discussion or will be taken up with the new government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to resolving issues of mutual interest through sustained diplomatic dialogue.

Highlighting the importance of cultural and social ties, the High Commissioner noted that people from Bangladesh’s eastern districts, including Sylhet, Comilla, Noakhali and Chattogram, have maintained close links with residents of India’s northeastern and eastern states for generations. He proposed organising a Bangladesh Film Festival in Tripura to further strengthen cultural exchanges and reinforce the historic bonds between the people of the two countries.

During his visit, Hamidullah travelled by train from Guwahati to Agartala to experience the scenic beauty of the Northeast. Since Thursday, he has met Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and other stakeholders, emphasising greater cooperation in economic, cultural and people-centric sectors.

The conclave drew senior diplomats from nine countries, including South Africa, Chile, Bangladesh, Timor-Leste, Laos, the Philippines, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, along with industry leaders and investors. Several MoUs were signed in tourism, agarwood, rubber and food processing. Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Jyotiraditya Scindia, Chief Minister Manik Saha and Industries Minister Santana Chakma addressed the inaugural session, highlighting Tripura’s growing investment potential.
