Agartala, Sep 14 — Forest and Science & Technology Minister Animesh Debbarma on Sunday said that engineers carry a greater social responsibility and have become an unavoidable social class due to their contribution to society’s progress. He was speaking at the 58th Engineers’ Day celebration organized by the Tipra Engineers’ Society in Tripura.

Addressing the event, Debbarma noted the importance of engineers in nation-building and emphasized their role in addressing modern-day challenges. “Engineers have a big role to play in today’s society. I am also an engineer by profession, and I understand the responsibility that comes with the profession. With the upliftment of society, engineers have emerged as a crucial social class. The new committee of the organisation shall take charge, and I am confident that fruitful discussions will take place on various issues during the event,” he said.

The Minister also highlighted the difficulties faced by engineers in their professional lives. “Engineers face multi-pronged problems in their workplaces. These could be related to job security, postings, transfers, promotions, or even work environments. They may also have genuine demands that need to be addressed. All such concerns should be discussed constructively, and solutions must be explored,” Debbarma added.

He lauded the efforts of the Tipra Engineers’ Society in bringing professionals together and providing a platform for dialogue on critical issues. Stressing the need for collaboration between engineers, policymakers, and the government, the Minister said that such interactions would contribute to a stronger, more developed Tripura.

The 58th Engineers’ Day was observed in memory of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, one of India’s most celebrated engineers, with events focused on innovation, professional challenges, and the future role of engineering in sustainable development.
