Eight-month-old baby underwent a complex surgery at GB Hospital

Agartala: Feb 06: An eight-month-old baby underwent a complex surgery at GB Hospital, as announced by Professor Biplob Nath of the ENT department at a press conference at the AGMC conference hall on Thursday. The baby, named Ujani Chakma, is from the new market Lebaichhara area. Initially admitted to Udaipur Gomati District Hospital for respiratory problems, the baby’s condition was deemed critical, prompting a referral to GB Hospital on August 6.

Upon arrival at GB Hospital, the baby was kept on oxygen. Various tests revealed that a small object, less than a centimeter in size, was lodged in her trachea. The baby underwent surgery on August 7, during which an electric metal object was successfully removed from her windpipe after a long two-hour bronchoscopy procedure. Professor Nath highlighted that saving the baby’s life would not have been possible without this machine, which is only available in Guwahati and Agartala in the North-Eastern region. The baby is now safe.

 

Professor Nath mentioned that the service was provided free of cost to the baby’s family, as such services are now available at no charge at GB Hospital. MS Shankar Chakraborty and other ENT doctors were also present at the press conference. They noted that various complex surgeries are now performed at GB Hospital, eliminating the need for patients to travel outside Tripura and incur significant expenses. The hospital is focused on further improving the quality of its services.
