Agartala: Feb 24: There is an extreme shortage of drinking water in GB Hospital. Patients and their families are starving for lack of drinking water in the Operation Theater and maternity ward of the medicine block. For four long days there is an extreme shortage of drinking water in the so-called main referral hospitals.
On Friday, the patient’s family members told media persons that some of them had come from various districts of the state including Gandachhera and Teliamura to GB Hospital for proper services. But coming to the hospital, they are suffering from severe shortage of drinking water for the last four days. They have to spend their own pocket money to provide drinking water from GB market. The biggest victims are the patients in the maternity ward and Operation Theater. Several liters of water are required per head of patients per day to keep them clean. Also the medicine block is crowded with patients queuing up. Even many patients are receiving medical services on hospital floor beds.
But drinking water is one of the most important parts of hospital services. From the health workers in the hospital to the doctors, everyone is aware that there is no drinking water in the hospital for the past few days. But no one has noticed a headache in this matter so far. But the families of many poor patients have to spend their own money to buy water from the market. The patient’s family gave details about that. Complaints of shortage of drinking water in major referral hospitals are not new though. There have been many complaints about drinking water in the hospital. But the MS and the staff in charge of the hospital are reluctant to open their mouths about the reason for the drinking water crisis. But all the victims are the patient’s family. Despite being a major referral hospital, such poor service is not taking long to leave a mark on people’s minds.
