Agartala, July 8, 2024: The district administration has issued a directive for the demolition of the Bharat Ratna Sangha Club at Usha Bazar within the next seven days. This order was communicated through a notice to the president and secretary of the club on Monday.
The notice highlights that the Bharat Ratna Sangha building has been constructed in a public area, violating the provisions of sub-section (1) of Section 6. A show-cause notice was previously issued on June 15. Following this, the administration has now mandated the demolition of the building. Dr. Vishal Kumar, West District Collector, detailed the order, emphasising the seven-day timeframe for dismantling the structure.
The club has been notorious for being a hub of illicit activities. It has been a centre for negotiations on various construction projects under the CPW Department and has provided shelter for various land mafias and miscreants. Recently, the club was involved in a murder case related to a dispute over negotiation money. Upon investigation, records revealed that the club’s location is on public property, or so-called ‘khas land.’
In response to these findings, the District Magistrate has ordered the immediate demolition of this illegal construction. This decisive action underscores the administration’s commitment to upholding the law and curbing illegal activities in the area.
