Amid growing public dissatisfaction over alleged mismanagement and concerns regarding healthcare services at Dharmanagar District Hospital, local MLA Jhar Chakraborty conducted a surprise inspection on Friday to assess the situation firsthand and understand the issues affecting patients and hospital functioning.

The visit came following repeated complaints from residents and patients regarding the quality of services being provided at the hospital. During the inspection, the MLA visited several sections of the hospital, including patient wards, the emergency department, outpatient services and other key healthcare facilities to evaluate the existing conditions.

Chakraborty spent a significant amount of time interacting directly with patients and their family members. During these interactions, many individuals reportedly expressed concerns over various issues affecting day-to-day hospital operations.

Among the major complaints raised were allegations of unhygienic conditions inside the hospital premises, shortage of doctors and healthcare workers, delays in treatment and other administrative shortcomings. Patients and attendants reportedly stated that these issues were creating difficulties for those seeking medical care and affecting the overall quality of services.

The inspection was attended by North Tripura District Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dipak Haldar, Medical Superintendent Bhaskar Das and several doctors and health department officials who accompanied the MLA throughout the visit.

During discussions with hospital authorities, Chakraborty reportedly sought detailed information regarding the functioning of various departments and expressed dissatisfaction over several issues that had come to light. He emphasized the need for immediate attention to the shortcomings identified during the inspection.

The MLA stressed that healthcare institutions play a crucial role in public welfare and highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness, strengthening infrastructure and ensuring the availability of adequate medical staff. He also called for more efficient and compassionate patient care systems within the hospital.

Chakraborty made it clear that negligence in healthcare services would not be accepted and that patient welfare must remain a priority.

Speaking after the inspection, he stated that Chief Minister and Health Minister Dr. Manik Saha has been placing special emphasis on improving healthcare facilities across Tripura. Keeping that vision in mind, he assured that necessary measures would be taken to improve the overall condition and functioning of Dharmanagar District Hospital.
