As the four day long festival culminated yesterday, the process of idol immersion was started from the day of Bijoya Dashami.

According to devotees, Bijoya Dashami marks Devi Durga’s departure for Mount Kailash after a four day long stay in between Saptami, Astami, Navami and Bijoya Dashami. On the day of Dashami people greet each other by saying “Subho Bijoya” that literally means a wish for good health and well being for the year ahead for next Durga Puja.

Married women clad in traditional attires applied vermillion on each other after Bijoya Dashami Puja at the Puja pandals. Fire crackers, Music and loud sound of traditional Drummers gave the festivities new height.

Earlier, pandal hoppers thronged the Puja pandals located in different parts of the state during the Puja days. Lakhs of people traveled from different corners of the state to witness the cultural extravaganza in Agartala city.

Unlike normal days, the whole city remained sleepless for four days. Heavy security arrangements had been made in order to evade untoward incidents.

Speaking on the security fronts, a senior official of the police department has said, “This is probably for the first time not a single incident of law and order breakdown has been reported in and around the city. We haven’t received any complaints regarding any serious crime as well. The Puja days passed off peacefully without any major incident or violation of law and order”.

According to him, a series of preventive steps were undertaken such as detention of history-sheeters much before Durga Puja, multi-layer security nets around the city, police assistance booths, enough deployment of paramilitary forces. “All these efforts fetched good results”, he pointed out.
