Agartala: May 06: The Pradesh Congress has launched the “Save the Constitution” campaign, drawing scrutiny from various political figures. Critics have questioned the party’s historical approach to governance, including its actions related to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Concerns raised include the absence of Ambedkar’s portrait in Parliament during Congress rule and electoral strategies that reportedly worked against him. Additionally, Ambedkar was conferred the Bharat Ratna award in 1990 under a different leadership, leading to discussions about Congress’s role in honoring his legacy.

At a press conference held at the Pradesh BJP headquarters on Tuesday, BJP State President Rajib Bhattacharya raised issues regarding Congress’s governance decisions. He referred to the imposition of President’s rule in Tripura before the 1993 elections despite a coalition government being in place. Additionally, he cited instances of alleged misuse of authority, including a legal matter related to the NSA Act in 1993 and a civil service examination dispute that reached the Guwahati High Court in 1996.

Bhattacharya also responded to employment-related concerns raised by CPI(M), stating that past governance decisions should not be overlooked. He referred to historical reports that suggested job vacancies were reserved for returning political figures in 1993, though public opposition led to a reversal of the directive.

Further employment-related concerns were brought up regarding Congress-era policies, including reported appointments to teaching positions, municipal roles, and the jute industry. These discussions have contributed to a broader debate on past governance practices and the motivations behind recent constitutional advocacy efforts.
