Agartala, September 20: The recent Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election results have drawn praise from Tripura Minister Sudhangshu Das, who said the outcome reflected growing support among the youth for nationalism and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision.

In a Facebook Live address on Saturday, Das congratulated the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) after it secured three of the four key positions in the DUSU. Yash Dabas was elected president, Riya Chhawdi secretary and Lakshya Raj Singh joint secretary. Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the vice-president’s post.

Das said Delhi University’s wide-ranging student population gives its union elections importance beyond the campus. Describing the university as “Mini India”, he said the results could be viewed as an indication of the political preferences of a section of young voters.

Turning his attention to the Congress, Das said the election outcome amounted to a rejection of what he called Rahul Gandhi’s “politics of lies”. He linked the results to support for the Centre’s ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision.

The minister also referred to Gandhi’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme in Indore and questioned its resonance with students. He alleged that the Congress and other opposition parties were trying to influence Gen Z through what he termed “false propaganda”.

Das cited the performance of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the Congress-affiliated student organisation, which failed to win any of the four central posts.

He also directed criticism at Communist parties and other opposition groups, accusing them of undermining nationalism and Indian cultural traditions. During the address, he used the terms “Urban Naxals” and “intellectual Naxals” while referring to groups he criticised.

Appealing to young people to remain alert to what he described as “forthcoming conspiracies and propaganda”, Das invoked Swami Vivekananda and encouraged the youth to maintain a positive outlook and contribute to nation-building.

Das concluded by congratulating the newly elected DUSU representatives and expressing hope that they would prioritise students’ welfare and play a constructive role in shaping the country’s future.
