Tripura, May 28, 2024 — Cyclone Remal made its presence felt in Tripura today, bringing heavy rainfall to various districts. According to the Meteorological Department, a total of 229 mm of rainfall was recorded in West Tripura district from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The highest rainfall was observed in Unkoti district, where the gauge reached 252.4 mm, while the lowest was in South district at 168 mm.
Meanwhile, Cyclone Remal, which had earlier been classified as a deep depression over Bangladesh, has gradually weakened into a low-pressure area. It is currently moving east-northeastward at a speed of 12 kilometers per hour. As of yesterday, its position was approximately 170 km west-southwest of Silchar (Assam), 260 km north-northeast of Mongla (Bangladesh), 60 km west-southwest of Sreemangal (Bangladesh), and 100 km northeast of Dhaka. The Meteorological Department predicts that the cyclone may continue its east-northeastward trajectory.
