Agartala: Mar 26: Left legislators staged a demonstration at the foot of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s statue in the Tripura Assembly premises, protesting against alleged constitutional violations by Speaker Bishwabandhu Sen. Opposition leader Jitendra Choudhury accused the Speaker of abusing his authority to protect Parliamentary Minister Ratan Lal Nath. He stated that a breach of privilege motion had been submitted against the minister regarding identity-related remarks, but no response was received until the previous evening.
Choudhury further alleged that the minister attempted to manipulate documents late into the night and that the Speaker subsequently accepted another breach of privilege motion from the minister. These actions, according to Choudhury, undermine democratic principles and prompted the opposition’s decision to boycott the ongoing assembly session.
The opposition leader criticized the BJP government, claiming that the current budget session marks a challenging chapter in the assembly’s history. He expressed dissatisfaction with the Speaker’s role, accusing him of suppressing opposition voices and compromising the sanctity of the assembly.
