Agartala: July 28: Samar Adhya, a prominent leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), passed away on Saturday afternoon at the age of 69. Adhya had been admitted to the hospital on the night of July 24 due to a brain hemorrhage.
Adhya was a key figure in the Students’ Federation of India and had served multiple terms as the General Secretary of the college students’ union. He was instrumental in establishing the Student Help Home in Agartala, which provides medical assistance to students. After his involvement in the student movement, Adhya transitioned to organizational work within the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Known for his literary enthusiasm, Adhya was actively engaged in the party’s education initiatives. His passing has left party workers and supporters deeply saddened.
On Sunday afternoon, Adhya’s body was brought to the CPIM state office, where former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chowdhury, and Left Front convener Narayan Kar, among others, paid their respects. A mourning procession was held in Agartala, with party workers and supporters carrying the body of the late leader.
