Agartala: Mar 17: At a press conference held at the CPI(M) state office on Sunday, Jitendra Chowdhury, the state secretary, emphasized that the impending Lok Sabha elections present a crucial opportunity to challenge the BJP’s dominance and safeguard the future of the new generation.
Chowdhury pointed out what he described as an “open love affair” between the BJP and Tipra Motha. According to him, Tipra Motha not only facilitated the BJP’s continued hold on power through behind-the-scenes negotiations but also capitalized on divisive tactics, exploiting certain segments of the population.
The CPI(M) has officially announced its candidates for the upcoming elections: Rajendra Riang will represent the Left Front from the East Tripura seat, while Ratan Das will contest from the 7 Ramnagar assembly constituency.
Narayan Kar, the convener of the Left Front, echoed Chowdhury’s sentiments, emphasizing the challenging context in which these elections are taking place. The nation grapples with poverty, hunger, and economic inequality. Unemployment rates have surged, and the cost of essential goods has skyrocketed. Meanwhile, allegations of corruption within the ruling party loom large, assuming an institutional dimension under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Kar criticized the government’s focus on religious polarization as a diversionary tactic.
Kar further highlighted the erosion of the country’s secular democratic system under the current administration. The situation mirrors the state’s predicament, where a double-engine government has exacerbated crises related to employment and food security. Despite these challenges, the government prioritizes ministerial photo campaigns while neglecting critical programs like the Rural Employment Guarantee Act (REGA), leaving workers’ wages unpaid.
As the election season unfolds, the CPI(M) urges citizens to engage actively and make informed choices to shape the nation’s future.
