Agartala, May 21 — In a significant development, police presented Rakesh Barman, recently apprehended in Raiganj, West Bengal, for his alleged involvement in the murder of Durga Prasanna Deb (alias Vicky), the secretary of Bharat Ratna Sangha club in Ushabazar. The court sought a 10-day police remand for Barman.
Additionally, Akash Kar, who had spent one day in jail custody, reappeared in court after undergoing a medical examination. His lawyer had previously claimed that he was mistreated while in police custody. However, the court reserved judgment on Akash Kar’s 6-day police remand application, temporarily extending his jail custody by one day.
During the medical examination, Akash Kar reported pain from a fall in the toilet, contradicting the allegations made in court on Monday.
In a separate hearing, the court considered the application for Rakesh Barman’s 10-day police remand. Barman, arrested on Saturday in Raiganj, was brought to the state on transit remand from another court. Government lawyer Shankar Lodh asserted that Barman was directly linked to the Vicky murder case.
