Agartala: Sept 23: Tripura is facing a severe law and order crisis, prompting the Congress party staged a protest march and surround the Director General of Police’s office. State Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha expressed concerns about the administration’s inaction regarding relief and rehabilitation for flood victims, as well as police inaction in addressing various crimes such as murder, terrorism, rape, and human trafficking ¹.
The situation is particularly dire for women, with daily harassment and no sense of safety, according to Saha. He also alleged that the BJP is undermining democracy in the state panchayat elections, with Congress workers being injured and BJP candidates winning seats through coercion. The police are not maintaining neutrality, allowing BJP workers to prevent people from voting ¹.
In response to these issues, Congress plans to surround the police headquarters to protest terrorism and women’s harassment. This move aims to pressure the authorities to address the deteriorating law and order situation and ensure the safety and well-being of Tripura’s citizens.
It’s worth noting that Chief Minister Manik Saha has previously stated that the law and order situation has improved in Tripura over the past five years ². However, the current protests and allegations suggest that there may be ongoing concerns and challenges in this area.
