Agartala: April 24: In a recent development, Pradyot Kishore Dev Barman, the former supremo of Tipra Motha, offered crucial advice to the Congress leadership in Tripura. Acknowledging the pivotal role of the opposition in a democracy, he emphasized that the Congress must independently fight to safeguard its existence.
During a press conference held in Rajbari, Dev Barman expressed regret over the Left-Congress alliance, asserting that it could potentially weaken the Congress. His sentiments were particularly directed towards the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), with whom he is currently engaged in a political battle in Tripura.
Despite the alliance, Dev Barman’s affection for the Congress remains evident. He refrained from making any adverse comments about the Congress leadership during his campaign. However, he highlighted the contrasting scenario in Kerala, where the CPM and Congress are locked in direct competition.
Drawing attention to the state’s history, Dev Barman reminded everyone of the 25-year CPM rule. The people of Tripura are well aware of the potential consequences if the CPM were to regain power. In light of this, he urged the Congress leadership to assert its independent identity and fight resolutely to preserve the party’s existence. The delicate balance of opposition forces plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy democratic framework, and Dev Barman’s advice underscores this significance.
