Agartala: June 03: Tripura Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman has called for urgent action against alleged corruption and irregularities in recruitment at Tripura University. In a letter to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Barman has demanded the immediate removal of acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Ganga Prasad Prasain and Registrar Dr. Deepak Sharma, citing serious allegations of favoritism and unethical practices.
According to Barman, university administration under their leadership has become a hub of nepotism, with qualified local candidates being overlooked in favor of external recruits. He claims that unauthorized faculty interviews have been scheduled despite the revocation of the Vice-Chancellor’s executive powers. Additionally, he alleges that even family members of top officials have been appointed to university positions.
The MLA points to media reports and a police complaint that have raised concerns over recruitment processes. He urges the government to form an independent investigation committee to review all appointments and financial transactions from the past year.
The matter has been discussed in the state legislative assembly, with assurances of an inquiry. Barman stresses that swift action is necessary to restore public trust in the university. The Union Education Ministry has yet to respond to the allegations.
