Agartala: July 16: Outcry over the terror incident surrounding the Panchayat elections in Tripura has also started in Delhi. Congress in a press conference at the party office in New Delhi today claimed in a tone of concern that Tripura is walking on the path of Manipur. Innocent people’s lives are being lost and houses are being burnt due to the violence supported by the ruling party. Hence the Congress Parliamentary Party will soon visit the state to monitor the situation in Tripura.
Congress leader Ajay Kumar said in a press conference today that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed Lok Sabha MPs Tarik Anwar and Gaurav Gogoi as AICC observers in Tripura. He claimed that BJP is a born rioter. Moreover, BJP party workers are creating continuous, unjust and violent situation in Tripura.
Continual terror by the ruling party BJP in order to maintain its political power is vital for the Congress workers. They are constantly fighting against that terror and living. The state government’s blindness to the atrocities of the ruling party has led to a severe deterioration of the law and order situation in the state, lamented Ajay Kumar.
He claimed that thousands of incidents of political terrorism had occurred in Tripura during the Lok Sabha elections. Not only that, cases of vote rigging have been revealed. However, no action was taken against all those atrocities. All those injustices have not been remedied during the current government, he said. He also added that many such incidents had to be endured by the Congress workers even before the 2023 assembly elections. Even AICC leaders have come under attack.
On this day, he commented that the current situation in Tripura is a prediction of Manipur. According to him, Manipur has a long history of coexistence of Kuki and Meitei communities. But in the greed to stay in power, their dividing line has been drawn. Manipur is plagued by violence. Tripura is also moving in that direction.
He alleged that the recent events surrounding the panchayat elections in Tripura had revealed a sad narrative of democratic decay and violence. From physical attacks on Congress candidates to use of intimidation tactics by destroying party offices and private residences, the allegations against the BJP describe a campaign to suppress opposition voices, he said. In this situation it is imperative for the administration to maintain the rule of law impartially and ensure the safety and rights of all citizens irrespective of political parties, he added. Kumar said the upcoming panchayat elections should be free from fear and coercion and serve as a testament to the democratic values enshrined in our constitution.
