Agartala: April 24: Tripura Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha has expressed concerns regarding alleged unauthorized dam construction by the Bangladesh government in the border areas of Kailashahar and Belonia. In a letter to the Chief Secretary, Saha urged immediate action to resolve the issue permanently, citing potential flooding risks in these regions.

Saha criticized India’s foreign policy under the Modi administration, alleging neglect of border areas and their residents. He highlighted that following last year’s floods, Bangladesh began constructing high dams near the border, which have reportedly affected agricultural land and exacerbated flood risks. Despite raising the issue in the legislative assembly and protests, the construction is said to be ongoing.

The Congress leader also referred to previous agreements that allowed India’s fencing project along the border, which impacted local farmland and livelihoods. He emphasized that the government must address the dam-related concerns before the monsoon season to ensure relief for affected citizens, particularly minorities in border regions.
