Colorful Procession Marks International Women’s Day in Agartala

Agartala, March 8: To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Tripura State Women’s Commission and the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education organized a vibrant procession in Agartala city. The event began in front of Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan and passed through various roads, with Minister Tinku Roy of the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education leading the procession. Tripura Women’s Commission Chairperson Jharna Debbarma and other dignitaries were also present.

Speaking to the media, Minister Tinku Roy highlighted the significance of the day, stating that the event aimed to honor, protect, and empower women. He emphasized the importance of turning the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” slogan into reality and urged collective efforts to prevent child marriage, which was the central theme of this year’s celebration. The minister called for a pledge to support women’s self-reliance and expressed optimism about the future achievements of women in the state.

 

The minister also mentioned notable figures such as Dipa Karmakar, Aradhya, Asmita, and Rekha Chakma as examples of Tripura’s talent, expressing hope that women from the state would continue to excel on national and international platforms.

 

The procession and associated programs reflected the commitment to women’s empowerment and the collective resolve to address social challenges.
