The Chief Minister emphasized the adoption of contemporary strategies to tackle monsoon-related issues. He suggested seeking input from external experts if necessary. Notably, the problem of waterlogging in Agartala has significantly reduced due to effective measures.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister called for the establishment of satellite hospitals and pink toilets to enhance health infrastructure in both urban and rural areas. He directed officials to intensify efforts in curbing mosquito-related concerns within urban regions.

According to the India Meteorological Department’s forecast, rainfall in June is expected to be normal to below normal. However, July and August may experience slightly above-normal rainfall. The Urban Development Department has proactively implemented measures to address the monsoon situation, including identifying flood-prone areas across urban bodies.

Preparedness measures include deploying water drainage pumps, maintaining Quick Response and Disaster Management Teams, and conducting mock drills. Regular cleaning of drains is also underway. Additionally, the Urban Development Department shared details about the Flood Control Department’s efforts to manage floods.

During the meeting, Agartala Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav discussed preparations for the monsoon season within the city. He covered topics such as the city map, rainfall statistics, drainage systems, flood drainage pumps, and long-term development plans. Modern machinery is employed for drain cleaning, complemented by manual efforts. Agartala currently has 18 pumping stations and 6 diesel drainage pumps. Monitoring occurs through the Integrated Command and Control Center, and a comprehensive drainage system plan for the entire city is in progress.

Urban Development Department official Rajat Pant provided further insights into the urban development project during the meeting.
