On the occasion of World AIDS Day, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha urged citizens to strengthen awareness, responsibility, and collective action in the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS. Observed annually on December 1, the day holds significant importance across the country, and Tripura has consistently participated with active involvement from government bodies, private institutions, and people from all walks of life.

Highlighting this year’s theme, “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response,” Dr. Saha said it underscores the need for resilience and innovation in addressing HIV-related challenges. He noted that the state government has been making continuous efforts to prevent HIV transmission and expand awareness. Tripura was recently recognized by the Union Ministry of Health for its efficient service delivery to individuals living with HIV/AIDS—a milestone the Chief Minister described with pride.

Dr. Saha identified four primary modes of HIV transmission: unprotected sexual contact with an infected person, transfusion of unscreened blood, sharing needles among multiple individuals, and mother-to-child transmission during pregnancy or childbirth. He emphasized that awareness about these risk factors remains the strongest tool in preventing the spread of HIV.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the extensive measures undertaken by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at various administrative levels, supported by awareness activities in schools, colleges, universities, government departments, and voluntary organizations.

Expressing concern over rising drug abuse, especially intravenous drug use, Dr. Saha stressed that such practices have contributed to the spread of HIV in the state. He appealed to all citizens to work together to protect the youth and create a drug-free Tripura.

Dr. Saha concluded by urging society to stand with people living with HIV/AIDS and promote compassion and constructive messages. He extended greetings to all institutions working dedicatedly in this field and expressed confidence that with collective effort, Tripura will successfully move towards eliminating HIV.
