The doctors advised her family to arrange for blood transfusion as the bleeding due to the incident caused massive blood loss.

The family arranged a donor from whom the blood bank authorities drew a unit of blood.

According to the system in the blood banks, the fresh blood unit drawn from the donor is preserved and an old bag is handed over to the patient in its place. This keeps the cycle of blood donation and distribution moving.

However, the blood unit that was supplied to the patient for transfusion in lieu of the donated unit is found out to be expired. The pouch of blood was already installed for transfusion through the veins when one of the family members saw the dates mentioned in the pouch.

The family members narrated the whole incident to the media and demanded action against the hospital authorities. They also accused the hospital of putting their lives at risk by providing substandard services.
