Agartala: Jan 05: On Sunday, the All Tripura Blind Committee organized a cultural program and an award ceremony at the Agartala Press Club to commemorate the 216th birth anniversary of Louis Braille, the French educator who invented a tactile writing system for the blind and visually impaired in 1824. The event was attended by the Minister of Social Welfare and Social Education, Tinku Roy, along with other dignitaries including West Tripura District President Balai Goswami, Secretary of Tripura Sports Council Sukanta Ghosh, and prominent journalist Pranab Sarkar.
During the event, two talented athletes and achievers from secondary and higher secondary levels were honored. Minister Tinku Roy highlighted the continuous efforts of the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education to ensure a good quality of life for differently-abled individuals. He mentioned that the state government provides allowances to those with 60% or more disability, with Tripura being the only state in India offering an allowance of two thousand rupees. The Minister also emphasized that if any differently-abled person is not receiving their allowance, the department takes steps to arrange it for them.
The event celebrated the contributions of Louis Braille and recognized the achievements of individuals with disabilities, reflecting the commitment of government officials to support and empower the differently-abled community in Tripura.
