Agartala, June 20 (H.S.): The ABVP protest over the physical and mental harassment of a female student has sparked tension in the Tripura Central University campus. On the written complaint of the victim, Amtali police station has registered a case against the accused professor. ABVP demands that the accused professor be dismissed immediately. The Vice-Chancellor of the University has assured that the investigation committee will look into the incident and take necessary measures.
It was alleged that a student of fourth semester was subjected to physical and mental harassment during the oral examination of philosophy subject at Tripura Central University on Monday. In this regard, ABVP State Secretary Sanjit Saha said that Assistant Professor of Philosophy Department Bhupesh Debvarma physically and mentally harassed a student. The incident happened during Darshan’s oral examination. As a result, the student fell ill. As a result, he was first admitted to the University Health Centre. But, seeing the deterioration of his physical condition, the doctor shifted him to Tripura Medical College Hospital in Hapaniya.
According to Sanjith, the Vice-Chancellor has been asked to dismiss the accused professor. If strict action is not taken against him, ABVP will embark on a larger movement. He said that a demonstration was held today in the university premises in protest against the incident. Memorandum has been submitted to the Vice-Chancellor. He claimed that the accused professor had committed a heinous crime. Traveling around the university and taking classes. Which cannot be accepted in any way. Hence, pressure is being put on the university authorities to demand his dismissal.
On this day, University Vice-Chancellor Professor Ganga Prasad Prasain spoke to the ABVP protesters. The crime will be tolerated, he assured. However, necessary action will be taken only after everyone’s statements are recorded before the inquiry committee. He said that he spoke to the victim student and her family last night after receiving information about the incident. The incident has been handed over to the investigation committee. The committee will observe after listening to both the parties and then necessary action will be taken. According to him, the central university has certain rules. Consequently, it must be followed. However, the offense will not be forgiven.
Meanwhile, on the written complaint of the female victim, Tripura Central University assistant professor Bhupesh Debbarma has been booked by Amtali police station under sections 354(A) and 509 of the Indian Penal Code. However, there is no news of the arrest of the accused till now.
