Agartala: June 09: On Sunday morning, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel stationed at BOP Kalimchera observed a large group of smugglers armed with sharp weapons near the international border. The smugglers were attempting to transport goods across the border.
When the BSF personnel ordered them to halt, the smugglers ignored the warning and became aggressive. They attempted to attack the BSF jawan on duty and seize his personal weapon. In response to the imminent threat, the BSF jawan fired a single round in self-defense.
The situation escalated into a physical confrontation, leading to the unfortunate death of one Bangladeshi smuggler. The incident occurred approximately 150 yards inside Indian territory, near the border fence. A subsequent search operation recovered a significant quantity of sugar, four knives, and wooden planks from the scene.
The deceased smuggler has been identified as Anwar Hossain (35), son of late Charu Mia, a resident of Mirpur, Ward No.-5, PS Burichang, District Comilla, Bangladesh. Notably, a similar incident had occurred in the same area on June 2, during which Bangladeshi smugglers had violently assaulted a BSF constable, attempting to drag him towards Bangladesh and seizing his personal weapon and radio set.
