In the aftermath of violence following the ADC elections in Tripura, BJP State President Rajib Bhattacharjee on Monday visited the Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel in Agartala, where several party workers and supporters have taken refuge after alleged attacks by Tipra Motha-backed groups. The visit comes as tensions continue to linger in parts of the state.

Bhattacharjee was accompanied by Tripura Legislative Assembly Chief Whip Kalyani Roy, BJP General Secretary Bipin Debbarma, and other senior leaders. The delegation interacted with displaced workers, listened to their grievances, and assured them of the party’s full support during the ongoing crisis.

Addressing the media, Bhattacharjee strongly condemned the violence and criticized Tipra Motha, stating that despite advocating “Thansa” or unity, its supporters have allegedly targeted members of the same tribal communities. He questioned the party’s commitment to tribal welfare and development, saying such incidents contradict their stated goals.

He further revealed that hundreds of BJP workers have been forced to flee their homes due to threats and intimidation. “The Chief Minister is currently engaged in election duties in West Bengal, but I remain in constant contact with him,” Bhattacharjee said. He added that state ministers, including Tinku Roy and Bikash Debbarma, are actively visiting affected areas and coordinating relief and support efforts on the ground.

Responding to concerns over possible administrative lapses despite the presence of CRPF and state police, Bhattacharjee defended the authorities. He stated that timely intervention by security forces helped prevent casualties and ensured the safe evacuation of affected individuals. He also confirmed that arrests have been made, although he expressed concern that some of those detained were later seen participating in road blockades.

Reassuring party workers, Bhattacharjee emphasized that restoring peace and ensuring safe return of displaced individuals remain top priorities. “The government is closely monitoring the situation, and necessary steps will be taken so that our workers can return home without fear,” he said.

Meanwhile, the displaced workers expressed relief over the visit, noting that the leadership’s presence and assurances have come at a crucial time. The administration has further tightened security measures as efforts continue to restore normalcy across affected regions of Tripura.
