The Tripura Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday suspended Rajib Saha, Mandal President of the 4-Barjala Assembly constituency, a day after his arrest in connection with alleged land mafia activities.
An executive order issued by the state BJP, signed by General Secretary Amit Rakshit, stated, “As per the direction of the Hon’ble State President, BJP, Tripura Pradesh, Shri Rajib Bhattacharjee, MP (RS), Shri Rajib Saha, President of 4-Barjala Mandal Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party, is placed under suspension with immediate effect for his alleged involvement and arrest by police on January 24, 2026.”
Saha was taken into custody on Saturday for purported links with land mafia syndicates operating in the Barjala area. Sources indicated that he allegedly misused his political position to influence land dealings within the constituency. While police did not provide detailed information about the case, officials confirmed that Saha was detained at the Airport Police Station for several hours before being formally arrested. A senior police officer noted that the arrest followed a complaint lodged by a judicial officer.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the judicial officer visited Barjala to inspect a plot of land. Saha allegedly arrived at the site and reportedly misbehaved with the security personnel accompanying the officer. The situation escalated into a physical altercation, during which the security staff was reportedly manhandled.
Saha, however, denied the allegations, calling them a “conspiracy to keep a true soldier of the party away from the grassroots.” He maintained his innocence while being produced before the West Tripura District Court on Sunday and expressed confidence that he would be exonerated.
Rajib Saha was recently appointed Mandal President following the BJP’s organisational elections and had earlier served as the Yuva Morcha President of the same Mandal. The party’s swift suspension of Saha reflects its stance on maintaining organisational discipline pending further investigation into the allegations.
