Agartala: July 14: Three-tier panchayat elections will be held on August 8. Counting of votes and results will be announced on August 12. As soon as the election is announced, the Election Conduct Rules come into force. Candidates of various political parties have already started submitting their nomination papers. Ahead of the panchayat elections, the ruling party BJP’s candidate list has been finalized.
Names of 3 candidates are first selected from each seat of total 605 Gram Panchayats. The list of shortlisted names was handed over to the election committee of the BJP party. Over the past three days, the Election Committee has finalized one candidate for each seat in 605 Gram Panchayats after vetting everything. At the same time, the list of names of candidates for 116 seats of 8 district councils has been finalized. Minister Sushant Chowdhury announced this news at a press conference at the state BJP office on Sunday evening. He also said that there are 58 blocks in the state. Out of that 35 blocks have Panchayat Samiti. There are 423 seats in these 35 panchayat societies. The list of candidates for these 423 seats has also been finalized. He expressed hope that the BJP candidates will win huge votes in each seat. There are 6 thousand 270 seats in 605 Gram Panchayats. The list of names of 6 thousand 270 candidates has been finalized for these constituencies. Initially for each seat the provosts select 3 candidate names. The candidate list was handed over to the election committee at the state BJP office. Then the list of names of 6 thousand 270 candidates is finalized from that list. Minister Sushant Chowdhury said that the BJP nominated candidates will submit their nomination papers in the next two to three days. Answering the questions of journalists at the press conference, Minister Sushant Chowdhury said that Tipra Matha and IPFT party are in alliance with BJP. Members of both parties are in the cabinet. Panchayat elections will be negotiated at the local level to share the seats. However, Minister Sushant Chowdhury said that CPIM will not lose even an inch of soil. Minister Sushant Chowdhury was accompanied by State BJP general secretary Amit Rakshit at the press conference.
