Agartala, June 16: Amid heightened security, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday organized a protest march in Agartala condemning recent attacks on the ancestral home of Rabindranath Tagore and on minority communities in Bangladesh.

The protest, led by BJP Tripura State President and Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee, began at Swami Vivekananda Maidan and concluded near the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala. Party workers carried placards and banners, raising strong slogans against the alleged violence and inaction by Bangladesh’s interim government, led by Mohammed Yunus.

Addressing the media, Rajib Bhattacharjee stated, “The attack on Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral home is an assault on Bengali culture and heritage. We are equally disturbed by the ongoing violence against minority communities in Bangladesh. The Yunus government must act immediately to ensure their safety and preserve cultural landmarks.”

Bhattacharjee criticized the interim government for failing to take prompt action against the perpetrators and demanded that it step down for its inability to protect minority lives and properties. He stressed the importance of upholding human rights and safeguarding shared cultural heritage.

The BJP’s protest in Agartala reflects a broader sentiment of concern being echoed across India and among the global Bengali diaspora. Protesters are demanding accountability and justice for recent attacks in Bangladesh, urging diplomatic and international attention to the issue.

To maintain law and order, additional security forces were deployed around the protest route. The event concluded peacefully, but leaders vowed to continue their advocacy until tangible steps are taken by the Bangladesh government.

The BJP reiterated its commitment to defending cultural integrity and standing with persecuted communities across the region.
