Agartala: April 08: Former Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb addressed a BJP workers’ conference at Sonamura Town Hall, held to mark the party’s 46th foundation day. During his speech, he emphasized the steps taken by the central government for the welfare of minority communities.
Deb stated that opponents of the Waqf Bill are acting against the interests of India’s minority Muslims. He highlighted initiatives introduced since 2014, including the abolition of triple talaq and amendments to the Waqf Bill, as measures aimed at supporting minority welfare.
He also expressed concerns about the impact of triple talaq on the lives of Muslim women, describing it as a practice that had adversely affected their futures. Deb praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for abolishing the practice, citing it as an example of prioritizing social welfare over electoral considerations.
