The CPI-M had criticized the killing of 27 Maoists, including their leader Nambala Kesav Rao, stating that the central and state governments had rejected dialogue and pursued a violent course of action. In response, Deb accused the CPI-M of adopting an inappropriate stance, arguing that communist ideologies should not have a place in the country. He further asserted that Maoists have caused distress to innocent civilians and criticized the CPI-M’s position on the matter.

The debate highlights ongoing discussions about approaches to dealing with Maoist insurgency in India, with differing views on dialogue versus counter-insurgency measures.
