Agartala: July 25: On the third day of the Parliament session, Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb raised a significant issue, urging the government to declare Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Tripura as an international airport. This demand has been a longstanding aspiration of the people in the state.

The MBB Airport, located in Agartala, boasts adequate facilities to cater to international flights. If granted international status, passengers would benefit from improved connectivity and enhanced travel comfort. Deb emphasized that MBB Airport serves as the sole gateway to Tripura, making its elevation to international status crucial for the state’s development.

Notably, on January 4, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal building at MBB Airport. In light of this, the concerned ministry is now under pressure to expedite the process of granting international recognition to the airport. Additionally, Deb has also called for the establishment of an immigration checkpoint to further enhance its functionality.

The matter remains under consideration, and the state government is expected to respond within the next two weeks.
