Agartala, May 02: Bhavaranjan Debnath, a tailor and resident of South Charilam, has regained his mobility after 18 years. In a heartwarming turn of events, Tripura’s former Chief Minister and Member of Parliament, Biplab Kumar Dev, stepped in to help Bhavaranjan receive a new prosthetic leg.

In 2006, Bhavaranjan lost his right leg in a tragic road accident, just one year after his marriage. The sudden loss left his entire family struggling to cope. Their only means of mobility was an artificial device or a wheelchair.

During an election program, Bhavaranjan met Biplab Kumar Dev, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominee for the West Tripura Lok Sabha seat, in Charilam on April 11. Bhavaranjan shared his plight with Dev, who promptly arranged for him to travel to Delhi for an artificial leg replacement at his personal expense. The successful transplantation took place at the Royal Retreat in West Bihar, Delhi, allowing Bhavaranjan to walk once again.

The accident had disrupted the family’s income, leaving them disoriented. Bhavaranjan’s wife took up work tying beedis to support the family, while their daughter continued her studies at Charilam Higher Secondary School. Bhavaranjan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Biplab Kumar Dev, who made it possible for him to regain his independence and walk without assistance.
