Congress MLA Birjit Sinha highlighted the deteriorating condition of the dam on the Indian side, which was built 40 years ago and has not been properly maintained. He urged the Chief Minister to take immediate action.

Sinha warned that the new dam in Bangladesh, combined with heavy rainfall, could result in a catastrophic situation in Kailashahar. He emphasized the need to strengthen the existing dam infrastructure, originally planned to extend 7 kilometers from Rangauti Gram Panchayat to Kailashahar town.

Minister Sudhanshu Das, representing the Fatikroy constituency, echoed Sinha’s concerns. He also expressed fears about severe flooding in Kailashahar due to the higher dam in Bangladesh. Additionally, Das raised the issue of cross-border infiltration and illegal activities along the Indo-Bangla border, urging the Chief Minister to take necessary measures.

In response, the Chief Minister assured the House that the state government is actively addressing the issue. He mentioned that a detailed report has been sent to the central government, seeking their intervention for a permanent solution.
