The birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was observed with respect and solemnity on Wednesday at MBB College Road under the Banamalipur Assembly Constituency. The event drew the participation of Banamalipur MLA Gopal Chandra Roy, Congress youth leader Dhiman Roy, Mandal president Animesh Das, several party workers, and local residents who gathered to honour the legacy of India’s first woman Prime Minister.

The programme began with the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag, followed by the garlanding of Indira Gandhi’s statue. Party members and attendees paid floral tributes, reflecting on her contributions to the nation. As part of the commemoration, milk, biscuits, and other refreshments were distributed to children and senior citizens in the neighbourhood, upholding the values of inclusivity and community welfare that Indira Gandhi often championed.

Addressing the media, MLA Gopal Chandra Roy remembered Indira Gandhi as one of India’s most influential leaders whose decisions helped shape the country’s political and developmental landscape. He highlighted milestones such as the Green Revolution, which transformed India’s agricultural output; the “Garibi Hatao” campaign aimed at poverty eradication; and the Twenty Point Programme introduced to enhance socio-economic development. Roy also underscored her leadership during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war, which resulted in the liberation of Bangladesh, as well as her efforts to bolster India’s defense and nuclear capabilities during challenging geopolitical times.

The event concluded with Congress leaders and supporters reaffirming their admiration for Indira Gandhi’s enduring vision, leadership, and dedication to national progress. They emphasized that her legacy continues to guide and inspire future generations across India.
