Agartala: Sept 16: An auto-rickshaw driver, Gouranga Debnath, was brutally beaten to death on Monday in the Sachindranagar area of Jirania. The incident has raised concerns about the law and order situation in the region.

According to the deceased’s brother, the incident began when Gouranga Debnath was returning home from the market in his auto-rickshaw. Two female students boarded the vehicle, and while attempting to overtake another vehicle near Sachindranagar market, the auto-rickshaw veered off the road. The students jumped off and sustained minor injuries. Gouranga Debnath then drove home.

Later, the family members of the injured students went to Debnath’s house, initially taking his auto-rickshaw. They returned and, finding him alone, severely assaulted him. Gouranga Debnath was admitted to GB Hospital on Sunday morning but succumbed to his injuries around 5 PM.

The deceased’s family has stated their intention to file a police complaint against the accused. Local residents and the family are demanding justice and severe punishment for those responsible, raising questions about the protection and accountability of such actions.
