Agartala: Mar 15: Based on a tip-off, a joint operation conducted by Assam Rifles and the Customs Department resulted in the seizure of 195 cartons of foreign cigarettes, worth an estimated ₹1.95 crore in the market. The operation, which took place in the Khowai district, was carried out as part of the ongoing efforts to curb smuggling activities in the region.

According to a statement issued by Assam Rifles, the seizure was made after receiving credible intelligence about the illegal consignment. The 195 cartons of foreign cigarettes, which are often smuggled into India without proper customs clearance, were confiscated during the operation. The seized goods have been handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and legal proceedings.
