Hyderabad, Aug 29:
The Indian Army on Friday rescued eight people trapped in floodwaters in Telangana’s Medak district, after the overflow of the Pocharam Reservoir caused severe flooding and led to the collapse of a bridge on the state highway, an official statement said.

A rescue column from the Bison Division, operating under the aegis of Headquarters Telangana and Andhra Sub Area (HQ TASA), carried out the operation. The rescued individuals were given first aid and essential medical care immediately after evacuation. In a parallel effort, a major relief was achieved with the safe recovery of eight missing children in Kamareddy district, who were reunited with their families, according to a defence release.

The Army continues to coordinate closely with the civil administration and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to provide urgent support to flood-affected communities. With its resources and expertise, the Army column is working relentlessly to mitigate the impact of the disaster and restore normalcy. Officials noted that the Army’s swift action reflects its commitment to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, upholding the values of duty, compassion, and service to the nation.

Meanwhile, the Telangana Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency and Civil Defence Department reported that it has rescued 1,646 people over the past three days across flood-hit districts. Working alongside the SDRF and local fire station crews, the department carried out 31 separate rescue operations in Kamareddy, Medak, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, and Nirmal districts.

Among them, five people stranded across the Narmala Vagu stream in Rajanna Sircilla district were airlifted by armed forces helicopters, with support from the Sircilla Fire Station crew. The coordinated operation was completed successfully, officials said.
