Agartala: Dec 06: The All India Kisan Sabha’s state committee secretary, Pabitra Kar, has strongly criticized the state government for its alleged indifference towards farmers affected by the devastating floods in August. He claimed that despite repeated demands to declare the floods a national disaster and provide adequate compensation, farmers have yet to receive proper assistance.
At a press conference held on Friday at Kisan Bhavan, Kar accused the state government of adopting an inhuman attitude towards farmers. He alleged that a list of farmers who had not received government assistance had already been submitted to the minister, Ratan Lal Nath, but no action had been taken.
Kar announced that the All India Kisan Sabha has decided to send representatives to meet the district magistrates of all districts by December 20. If the situation doesn’t improve, they will approach the state chief secretary. If the government continues to neglect the affected farmers, the organization will launch a mass movement.
Kar also pointed out the discrepancy in the procurement price of paddy. While the state government is procuring paddy at Rs 23 per kilogram, the Kerala government is procuring it at Rs 28.20 per kilogram. He questioned why the Tripura government cannot follow suit and increase the procurement price for farmers.
Other leaders of the organization, including Motilal Sarkar and Ratan Das, were also present at the press conference.
