Dhaka, Nov 25 — The Awami League on Tuesday announced a series of nationwide protest programmes to be held until November 30, demanding the resignation of Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus of the interim government and rejecting the recent verdict of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

On November 17, Bangladesh’s ICT sentenced Sheikh Hasina to death after finding her guilty of crimes against humanity in connection with last year’s July demonstrations. The tribunal also handed down a death sentence to former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and sentenced former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun—who became a state witness—to five years’ imprisonment.

In a strongly worded statement issued to the nation, the Awami League condemned the verdict, calling the tribunal “illegal” and accusing the interim administration of orchestrating a politically motivated trial. “You have all witnessed how the so-called court established by the illegal usurper, killer–fascist Yunus and his clique has delivered a verdict against the Honourable Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina. You have rejected this farcical judgment with contempt,” the party said, expressing gratitude to citizens who protested the ruling.

The Awami League declared that protest and resistance marches would take place across all districts and upazilas until November 30. The party alleged that the Yunus-led interim government is conspiring to exclude both the Awami League and Hasina from the electoral process, using what it termed a “mockery of a trial” to achieve political ends.

The statement further claimed that the party is actively engaging with grassroots leaders, political stakeholders, and citizens to counter what it described as “anti-state conspiracies” by the interim government. “The people are ready to resist these forces, and the Awami League will lead that struggle,” the party said.

The Awami League concluded by warning that any “staged election” that excludes pro-liberation forces or Sheikh Hasina would be firmly resisted nationwide.
