A nineteen-year-old air hostess returning home to Bishramganj from Guwahati became the victim of a horrific incident on Tuesday evening, triggering widespread outrage and tension in the town.
After landing at Agartala Airport, the young woman boarded a Sonamura-bound passenger bus from Agartala to reach her hometown Bishramganj. It was raining heavily, and she took a seat near the front of the bus. A young man occupied the same seat beside her. During the journey, around 7:30 PM, under the cover of darkness, the man reportedly began harassing her. His actions quickly turned into severe misbehavior, causing immense trauma to the victim.
The victim managed to alert her family members via phone, who rushed to the Bishramganj Motor Stand to intercept the bus. By the time the vehicle arrived, the accused had allegedly fled. Upon arrival, angry relatives and local residents surrounded the bus, venting their fury on the vehicle. Glass windows were shattered, and a tense atmosphere engulfed the area.
Sensing the gravity of the situation, police forces from Bishramganj and Bishalgarh stations, along with the district Superintendent of Police, swiftly reached the spot. Their prompt intervention helped defuse the situation and prevent further escalation. The bus was escorted to the local police station with all passengers on board for safety.
Thanks to the police’s rapid response, the situation is now under control, and peace has been restored in Bishramganj. An investigation is underway to apprehend the accused.
