New Delhi, July 12 — Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Leader of Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Ankush Narang, launched a sharp critique against the BJP-led civic administration over widespread waterlogging across Delhi following recent rainfall. He accused the BJP government of failing to take basic preventive measures and misleading the public with false assurances.

“Massive waterlogging was reported from all over Delhi after the rains. Despite promises, nothing was done on the ground. The Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, and PWD Minister Parvesh Verma claimed 443 vulnerable points had been identified and staffed, but we haven’t seen a single suspension for the mess. What action has actually been taken?” Narang asked during a press briefing.

He also took a swipe at Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh’s recent remark that “Delhiites will enjoy the monsoon,” saying, “Apparently, enjoyment means wading through sewer water on the streets.”

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Narang questioned the condition of Delhi’s drainage system. “Were the sewers ever cleaned? Were the PWD or MCD drains cleared? Even the safety nets were not maintained. The government has done nothing — just photo-ops at drains.”

He further slammed Minister Parvesh Verma for avoiding responsibility. “Instead of hosting conferences, he should focus on ground issues. The city’s main bridges and PWD roads were flooded. People were stuck for hours.”

In contrast, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta denied significant waterlogging, saying the government was “monitoring and addressing isolated issues.”

Narang concluded by demanding accountability from the BJP and called the waterlogging crisis a complete administrative failure, saying, “Delhi deserves better than clogged drains and flooded roads.”
