Agartala:  March 15:  Amidst the electoral fervor in Tripura, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson, Nabendu Bhattacharya, addressed recent statements made by Congress MLA Sudeep Roy Barman. The political landscape has been charged with discussions about potential alliances and vote shares in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Bhattacharya dismissed the notion that opposition candidates, even if united, could breach the 1 lakh votes threshold in either of the two Tripura constituencies. He attributed this skepticism to the fear gripping the Congress, which seeks to provoke BJP leaders and workers within the alliance.

In a pointed response, Bhattacharya emphasized the credibility of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promises. He cited the successful implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) across the country, beginning with the abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir. According to him, the Congress’s attempts to instill fear among the state’s populace regarding the CAA would prove futile.

Regarding the allocation of party roles, Bhattacharya asserted that no opposition leader could dictate the placement of BJP members within the state. Depending on the exigencies, some would engage in parliamentary politics, while others would focus on organizational matters. He cautioned against futile provocations.

The recent exclusion of two Tripura candidates from the Lok Sabha elections prompted questions from Congress MLA Sudeep Roy Barman at the Jatka Congress Bhavan. In response, Bhattacharya wryly remarked that even if opposition candidates joined forces, they would fall short of the 1 lakh votes mark. The Congress’s apprehensions, he suggested, were rooted in the gradual isolation of the opposition.
