Agartala, Jun 26: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr) Manik Saha after taking the oath for the second term made it clear that he wants to make Tripura free of drugs abuse.
He has been working with the vision with no compromise.
Earlier many things were said by the leaders but there was no effective step to end the drugs menace. This time, Dr. Saha in a determined move intensified the “Drugs-free Tripura” campaign and gave free hand to police to eradicate the issue at its roots.
The Chief Minister has passed clear instructions to the Police department to take stringent actions against those involved in drugs dealing.
In line with the Chief Minister’s vision, the police department is also doing a great job under the Nesha Mukt Tripura Campaign. Tripura Police is making all out efforts to eradicate the drug menace from the state.
An official report said, during 2023 a total of 245 cases under NDPS act have been registered and more than 373 accused persons have been arrested till May.
During this period narcotic items worth more than Rs 70 crore have been seized and Narcotics items worth more than Rs 12.5 crore have been destroyed.
When Dr. Manik Saha became the Chief Minister for the first time in 2022, he had the same objective. He always said that BJP is a party with difference and its main motto is to create a peaceful environment and wants to help the people in every way. In that year also Drugs-free Tripura was the prime goal. Hence in the year 2022 a total of 562 cases were registered and a total of 760 accused people were arrested while Narcotics items worth more than Rs 263 crore were seized.
There are various other activities like Synergy Checking at Naka points on National Highways, State Highway and Arterial roads is being done on a regular basis to check drug trafficking. Intensive operation and frequent raids are being carried out at suspected places along with surprise special drives for seizure and destruction of ganja.
As per the Central agencies’ data, Tripura figure in the 2nd largest seizure in North East and the highest destruction of narcotics items.
Dr. Manik Saha in some programmes have appealed to the common people of the state that if they find or get any sort of information regarding drugs and anything activities related to it must be reported to the police. This will help them work better and the aim of “Drug free Tripura” will continue at a fast pace. Hence Tripura Police has also appealed to the citizens of the state to share any information pertaining to narcotics with the local police and the toll free number on which they can inform is 112. The identity of the informer will be kept confidential.
