Agartala, Nov 5:Senior BJP leader and Tripura minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday expressed confidence in his party’s prospects in the upcoming elections to 21 municipal councils and urban local bodies across the state, citing an enthusiastic public response to a nomination rally in Mohanpur.
The rally was organised to mark the filing of nomination papers by BJP candidates for the Mohanpur Municipal Council elections. Leading the procession, Nath said the large turnout and enthusiasm among residents reflected public support for the party and its leadership.
He claimed that the response had exceeded the BJP’s expectations and demonstrated the support it had earned through governance and grassroots-level outreach.
The minister said the party was approaching voters with its development initiatives and public service record rather than relying solely on electoral promises.
He emphasised that elected representatives should remain accessible to people and maintain close connections with society, particularly during difficult times.
Nath said the BJP had fielded candidates who were capable of handling administrative responsibilities and had also been actively associated with social activities and community welfare.
Understanding local problems and standing beside people during times of need were essential qualities of public representatives, he said.
Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects in Mohanpur, Nath said the BJP expected a strong performance in municipal and urban local body elections across Tripura.
He attributed the party’s support in urban areas to the government’s development agenda and its efforts to maintain contact with people at the grassroots level.
Targeting the opposition, the minister claimed that parties such as the CPI(M) had witnessed a decline in public support over the years and would face challenges in future elections.
However, he said every political party had the democratic right to contest elections and welcomed electoral competition as an essential part of the democratic process.
Nath alleged that ordinary citizens had felt neglected under previous governments, while claiming that BJP leaders and workers had established stronger connections with people and remained actively involved in addressing their concerns.
The BJP is expected to highlight development initiatives, civic amenities, local governance and grassroots engagement during its campaign.
The elections to 21 municipal councils and urban local bodies are expected to witness contests between the ruling BJP and opposition parties across Tripura.
